First read our advice on chosing keywords &
phrases plus how to utilise signpost html tags
in your content.
The world wide web should be exactly that - a web of interlinked websites
and pages. There are benefits for everyone if the links are relevant and
useful; visitors, website owners and search engines can all gain. However,
poor linking can be negative and this can reflect badly on your site.
-
Focus on related and relevant links only. Quantity isn't near as important
as quality.
-
Try to get links from other sites to use some of your important
keywords in the link text. Vary the text you
suggest.
-
Try to get links from the more popular websites eg. certainly the popular
sites which share your topic plus big general sites & directories .
-
Exchange links with websites in your field plus those in related fields;
think laterally.
-
Find who links to your competitors using popularity checkers (see
links) and contact them asking for a link to you.
-
Check if professional bodies in you field have links pages. If they do, get
listed.
-
Don't waste everyone's time by getting links pointing to your website from
other minor websites which aren't relevant to your topic area. Be selective.
-
Don't join link farms or use automated link exchange packages. The link quality
will be poor and you could be penalised for being associated with these.
